The American Legion Department of Alaska, established in 1953, is a patriotic veterans organization dedicated to serving veterans, active-duty service members, and their families throughout Alaska. With headquarters in Anchorage and posts spanning from Coldfoot, Alaska, to Tamuning, Guam, the organization offers a wide range of services. Accredited American Legion service officers provide expert assistance, free of charge, in areas such as VA disability benefits, education, employment, and death benefits. The Department also administers various programs, including scholarships like the Samsung American Legion Scholarship and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship, aimed at supporting higher education for veterans' descendants. Additionally, the organization promotes community involvement through initiatives like the Blue Star Service Banner program, honoring families with members serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. By fostering camaraderie and offering essential resources, the American Legion Department of Alaska plays a vital role in enhancing the well-being of the veteran community across the state.
